Why I do what I do....

Kodachrome
You give us those nice bright colors
You give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah!

When I turned 29 in March of 2010 I made a list of "30 things to do before I turn 30". On that list was to start a photography blog. I wanted to start space online to post some of my favorite photos. Of family, flowers, trips, dogs, etc.

One of my best investments has been my camera. I take it everywhere I can. I wore it around my neck when I climbed 4,000 feet up to to the top of Yosemite Falls. I took newborn photos of my nephew, Gray, when he was only a few days old. I've taken countless photos of Stevie and Wil and of my hydrangeas. My camera has captured birthdays, Christmases, ballgames and afternoons in my Grandma's backyard. I've captured photos of family members that I'm proud to say capture their personalities.

I love looking through my old photo files and find photos of things I had forgotten; of moments with people I love. My grandfather passed away in September and I recently found a photo that I had taken of him from the previous September. He was smiling at me in a way that shows that maybe he didn't want his photo taken, but he loved me and smiled for me anyways. I love that I can see all that in one simple photo. I can see his personality and what he was thinking.

I like to take photos of everyday events. Someday my children will wonder what it was like before they were around and I'll be able to show them. I took a photo of my sister-in-law, Margaret and her husband and baby son this fall. They're all on their bed and Gray is chewing on a blanket and mom is checking his something on his face and dad is watching. It was so normal and so comfortable. I'm so glad I snapped the photo. You can see the love and the intimacy of a sweet family in one simple shot.

I'm not bragging on my photography skills by any means. I am no professional, but I do love taking photos, editing them and experimenting with new techniques. So this is my photo display blog. I can't promise the photos will always be the best quality or best composition. But like Paul Simon's song: "I got a Nikon camera, I love to take a photograph, so Momma don't take my Kodachrome away."
